In the tanning process, the underpart of the veg tan topgrain sides, known as the split, is separated and sold separately after the sides have been processed. These splits are grainy on both sides and have a medium weight, ranging approximately between 3 to 4 ounces, with a pleasantly firm hand. Each piece measures 4 square feet and is a natural light tan color, with a relatively even thickness and consistency for splits. This is a great value for the money, as these types of leathers often cost significantly more on the open market, and they can be difficult to find.
